That strict guideline is held by the U.S. Customs Service, and constantly repeated aloud by the haughty folks. . . . . . U.S. Customs also insists that the tomato is a "vegetable" (though everyone else knows it's a fruit). . . . . . . The haughty folks tend to love talking borishly, more than the quiet admiration of beautiful old things. . . . . . Most dealers and shoppers don't haggle about the strict meaning of the word, concerned mainly with accuracy of the date itself, the item's origin, and its current condition. . . . . To avoid any charge of fraud, here we'll be compromising between the proper and the practical, as we cover a lot of items under the term, "VINTAGE," yet we list them among the antiques.
